How It Works: The Science Behind Efficient Heat Transfer

The GLL Series shell-and-tube heat exchanger consists of key components including:

  • Housing (Shell) – Typically cylindrical, housing the entire system
  • Tube Bundle – A group of tubes fixed at both ends to tube sheets
  • Baffles (Flow Plates) – Installed inside the shell to direct fluid flow and enhance heat transfer
  • Tube Sheets – Secure the tubes and separate the shell-side and tube-side fluids
  • Pipe Box (Header) – Distributes the fluid into the tubes

Two fluids are exchanged:

  • Tube-side fluid (A fluid) flows through the internal tubes
  • Shell-side fluid (B fluid) flows around the outside of the tubes
